Back from blogger's meet.
Written by lainie at 04:32 PM on April 17, 2004.
Well the blogger's meet was rather fun, turned out pretty much as I expected it to.
I found out a few things there.
Graceshu bites styrofoam cups to death, her cup ended up like some sorta cheese I left out overnight and a legion of rats attacked it.
Bloggers like to molest each other (but this did not involve me, for once, thank goodness).
I kept thinking I met Daryan from this journalist workshop I attended ages ago (turns out I was oh so wrong), and now I can't remember where I've met him before.
Rach babes do you remember? Workshop? BRATs activities? How? Where? My memory is shot...
Ted is a girl. I told her that was an awfully misleading nickname, but as she pointed out, the word FEMALE is written on the main page of her blog (how I missed that I don't know). She asked if I read Japanese, and I said I read comics (don't I sound so intellectual?) which she says doesn't count.
Well, I can say "Spank me" in japanese, but I didn't think anyone would want to hear that.
Some Malaysian (I think so anyway) blogs have Japanese names (I think so anyway): Ryuujin and Kamigoroshi.
Lainie: What's the name of your site?
Edrei: Kamigoroshi
Lainie: What's that mean?
Edrei: God killer!
Lainie: Wha.....That sounds so...
Edrei: Cool?
Lainie: Violent?
Hehhehe. It is quite a cool name though. I thought it was the name of the dragon in Mario - but that's Yoshi ain't it?
Asides from Daryan, Minishorts and April, were there. The four of us are members of BRATs, this journalist thingie for Star Newspaper (and I'm gonna guess that I'm the most inactive of all).
At one point Irene was smiling at me, or in my direction and I hadn't done anything stupid, so I thought maybe I had raw fish on my face or somethiung.
No one will notice that you have no chopsticks skills if you poke your food in such a fashion that it appears as though you are actually capable of picking up food. Really, it's possible. No one got maimed by little flying bamboo sticks, and no one pointed at me and laughed, so yeah.
Actually, maybe that's why Irene was smiling towards (at?) me.
=====
The way I look at it:
I could have sat on the other end of the table where they talked about science, and I would have understood nothing (am obviously not a very good bio-science grad).
Or sit where I did with the techies, where they talked about servers and computers, and still understand nothing.
Mainly talked to Alex, Ken , Daryan and Vlad (ALL techies!!).
The five of us had a lil talk. We all agree that if you come home, open the door and see:
Situation 1: Angry man wielding parang
Situation 2: Angry woman wielding parang
[ Parang is a malay word for scythe. Cliche image of man running amok usually involves him waving a parang wildly. Nasty weapon. I prefer stunguns ]
Situation 2 is way scarier. This decision is unanimous (I'd rather see my father at the door with a weapon than my mother. She must be feeling extra psychotic and homocidal if that's what she's doing, while my father would just want me to...I don't know, beg for my life and let him know he is superior and godly compared to lil, weaponless, very scared me I guess).
I asked Alex if he liked boating...because...I mixed up his URL, I thought it was yac.ht (it's yat.ch - eeek). Turns out Yat is his nickname from school (ah well).
Alex asked me why I started blogging, and I still don't know. Like all other things I do, I was bored...But I guess I continued cause it's kinda nice to remember all the stuff my friends and I did
I told him about a few of the things that we've done...He said something about how it should have been filmed. I was just imagining how my life is in danger of getting quite screwed now that Daphne's deferring her college to write her book and do up her portfolio.
Lainie: Uh, I don't suppose you're gonna change our names in that book of yours?
Daphne: Well...You see, I want to be honest and *bla bla too bad Lainie bla bla bla*
[ That's the problem, she's so damn "my life is an open book" honest ]
[ Ah well, fair play, I blog about her. ]
[ Of course, our mothers don't read my blog ]
[ Actually, I don't mind, should make life more interesting if she gets t hat book published ]
Anyway, if a show was made of my life....My god, I'd have to find a place to hide from my mother. Iceland. Czech Republic. Maybe some place with bad weather and minimal shopping malls (wait, I think I just described my hometown).
[ If I get any of the URLs wrong, please don't get pissed off, it's called information overload. ]
=====
After the blogger's meet I was standing outside the building trying to get a cab when I saw this huge group of guys who ....uhhh....I'm pretty sure these guys were going for the hardcore rockers look, but they looked more glam rock to me, just minus the make-up
All that metal they were wearing, so shiny. Girls wear diamonds, guys wear metal? Hmmm.
Silly boys.
Most were wearing flashy jackets, boots, some had strange hair and nice studded belts. Very colourful bunch. Anyway, they were walking across the street and I signalled at one of them that I liked his jacket.
[ Insert Lainie doing some sweeping hand movement from shoulder to shoulder, while giving cheesy thumbs up signal - it looks better than it sounds, honestly. ]
Anyway, they were happy about that. Then the guy did his own gesture which basically went:
[ Guy cups hands in front of chest (yeap. Boobs.), and gives thumbs up sign ]
Damn, I had to laugh. Oh well, I suppose if I'm gonna ogle then it's fair play when reciprocated (admittedly mine was more suitable for the eyes of the young child sitting nearby with his mother).
Actually it wasn't that much fair play cause I was just admiring his shiny jacket with nice designs, not some manly pecs he had - cause there wasn't much to ogle, heh (although granted if he had them, I would have
).
Hey, at least I'm honest about it.
