3D / Packrat / Tip menjadi individu menarik

Written by lainie at 06:28 PM on September 7, 2005 in Daily Life, Links / Email, Arty stuff.

I've been so pampered by the excellent default help files and online resources for Photoshop that I feel like smacking whoever wrote the help files for Studio 3D Max. Idiot. Well, actually, I'm the naff one since I moved a camera, panned and zoomed out, and now I can no longer find the object I'm working on in one of the four views.

I swear it's like that thing fucked off on me, reminds me of those moving photos in Harry Potter. Well my space craft is having some clandestine date with the Millenium Falcon, I hope.

And now I can't apply material cause it says something about something referencing another thing, so I need to do it individually. I don't even know what I did, much less how to undo it, and the help file is.....goddamn useless, that's what.

Anyhow, I'm done with this file, not because my work is great, but since I've learned what I set out to, basically the manipulation of shapes, and how to look at the final object and roughly figure out a way to simulate it. Right I've rendered an image of my second 3D project, and trust me it's a bitch because my computer slows down crazy. Online tutes, bless them for assuming I have any idea what's going on in this program. Let's just say I've almost finished an entire album collection of songs because last I checked, it was still "processing radiosity" and "time remaning: ??:??:??", which is exactly what it was five minutes before that. Hell. I must have put some setting way too high.

Hardware Morph:

-Do-not-ask-me-what-it-is-just-because-I-made-it-doesn't-mean-I'll-know-

I just realised the second one looks like....a dick. Is it just me? Does it look like a penis to anyone else?

I'm just kinda sitting in front of the computer taking jpegs of this dark object I'm rotating because I can't see a damn thing until after I make it into a picture, then all the shades of gray show up. I'm pretty sure there should be some setting to help for this.

Lighting and animation next, because I suck at one and I have no idea how to do the other. Also one more figure. I have come to realise that what I see in the preview and what I get when I render, for lighting, are two veeeeeeeeery different things. I spent ages tweaking the lighting so just the right amount of details show up, and then I get some overexposed shite in my render O_o.

I wish the help files were more user-friendly. Everytime I have a question or something I want to learn further on about, I go to Help, browse around, then spend about twenty minutes figuring it out by myself. It's annoying, but damn it's great when I do get what I'm doing.

Figures! Lighting! Animation! Onward, ho!

======

I'm a packrat. I never throw stuff away. Mom has just given me some plastic bags and told me to put the stuff I won't want anymore in them. Basically she wants me to go to KL by this weekend to sort out some things, and we might have moved out before I come back.

This is kinda depressing. I want to keep everything because a lot of stuff I've had for, oh say, forever. Anything I don't want would have been lost long ago, all that remains are the things that I do like.

So yes, have to sort out college stuff, print out a portfolio if need be, burn stuff on CD, pack up stuff in room, pack up stuff for college to bring down to KL. I'm not even sure if I'm starting soon. Also, must go to LUCT and pick up old results because as expected, they have not mailed me the results like they said they would. Typical, really.

ASSHOLES.

Anyways, Pui called at a bad time, she wants me to sub for her at work for Friday, Sat and Sun, but that's not gonna happen because of all the stuff I need to do. Ah well.

=====

Anyways, some of you people have been asking me about the book I blogged about. I believe I refered to it as Stupid Dato's Book? Well, thank goodness Rano remembers the title because I didn't have the foggiest idea, only remembering the picture on the cover.

The link is here: Tip Menjadi individu menarik. Scrolling through the chapter points ought to give you a rough idea what I was talking about, if you read Malay.

Exerpt of chapter titles:

Tip 38 Puji di Khalayak
Tip 39 Nasihat dengan Bijaksana
Tip 40 Selalu Bersetuju
Tip 41 Jangan Suka Berdebat
Tip 42 Teknik Menarik Perhatian
Tip 43 ‘Happy Birthday to You’
Tip 44 ‘Mengorat’ Bakal Bapa Mertua

What's puji di khayalak? I forgot what khayalak is. My first instinct towards tip 40 and 41 was to disagree and argue about it.

No dato for me then.

For those looking for the book, I'm not sure where else it's available, I found it in the massive self-help section in Popular bookstore.

Oh dear God, this guy goes on national tv telling housewives why they suck and patronises them on how to treat their husbands. Blergh.

I remember him coming to my school once to talk 'motivation'. Tried to make everyone in the school hall cry; so as to inspire them to work harder.

I'm quite sure "puji di khayalak" means "praise in public".

Ahhh...I thought it was something like praise amongst the masses, hence confusion.

That makes sense though, stroke the ego and all that.
