Gubra Gubra

Written by lainie at 02:55 PM on April 26, 2006 in Daily Life.

I should warn you, I'm blogging 150% grumpy because I'm hungry and too lazy to walk out for food and I'm aware I'm only doing this to myself.

=====

At the cinema with Tei, we walked by this poster for this movie, Belahan Jiwa.

Tei: I want to watch this movie.
Lainie: Oh yes, me too. I mean....

[ Then as we eyeballed the poster, we say at the same time ]

Lainie: Look at all the people!
Tei : Look at all the chicks!

Lainie: People not chicks, Tei, people. Look, there's like one guy at the bottom of the poster.
Tei: Oh. Oh yes. I mean, we're going to watch it for the people.
Lainie: Yeah. Do we know what's the movie about? No! Is it important? No!

Hey, must support Indonesian stuff okay? Where else will we get totally lesbian music videos under the guise of...under the guise of.....wait, are they even bothering to hide it? I guess not.

Ratu's Teman tapi mesra, similar theme of unrequited love (though this video is the more cruel kind of almost-unrequitedness), with girls prancing around. Also lesbian friendly, but in the because-there-are-girls-prancing-around kinda way.

Wonder why Tei and I like all these kinda songs so much. Hmmmmmm. It's quite sad that both songs I've listed can be found on Jiwang.org. *Pummels table and cries over loss of street cred*. I even have an account there - but only because I need to download the KamaSutra ebook they have there.

And only because I am doing Kama Sutra for my college assignment. And I swear, this time round it wasn't my idea.

=====

We have decided Tei did not "come out of the closet", she came out of a kandang*.

[ *god, what do you call those things we put goats in? Not barbeque pits. Like how dogs have kennels. And you'd think I'd bother to google this and look less stupid, but naw. ]

====

I watched Gubra, by Yasmin Ahmad, last night. Watch trailer here.

I liked the movie - I've been so ruined by Hollywood that I expect sequels to be, well, exactly like the first one. Gubra however, was much better than that - I can't say I liked everything, but I liked quite a sizeable chunk. Many laughing moments.

While waiting for the movie to start, Tei had informed me that RTM had some forum going on that said Gubra is "killing bangsa Malaysia" or something like that (read more from Meesh).

Lainie: Haha..The day Yasmin Ahmad can kill Malaysia, call me, I have to see how.
Kat: Aiya. If a movie can kill a bangsa....Then the bangsa.....

[ Pause ]

Kat: Should just die.

She has a point.

There was a scene where a Malay man petted a dog's head. At that moment I turned around to look at the audience sitting behind me (I was sitting in the row front of everyone else). Whaddya know, no one died. I'm probably missing a point somewhere, but to be fair, I'm probably missing far less than the people who were discussing Gubra on RTM.

=====

It meandered quite a fair bit, and not all the stories we were shown were connected - but I have nothing against that. I can see it being dissed for the lack of a focal point though. The only thing I didn't actually like about Gubra was the massive racial harmony preach that happens in. I don't like being preached at. I particularly dislike realising I'm being preached at. You know how they say "show, don't tell"?

There'll be one long dialogue scene there where you have to listen to how wonderful it is to have so many languages and races in Malaysia. I know lah, don't make me spew from listening to how fantastic it is, the goody-two-shoes aura is starting to make me dizzy.

You could say I am so tired right now - understand this is not cause of Gubra, if anything, any other time I would have rolled my eyes and let the lil speech pass. But now, *narrows eyes* ooooh.

I am so BLOODY FUCKING TIRED of being told what is right, what is not, what is immoral....I tell you, I am heading in the direction of randomly bitchsmacking people just for looking too goody / conventional. I should know, you have no idea how many violent instincts I surpressed walking in Midvalley looking at people all wearing the same clothes (not like I was wearing anything much different), eating their McDonalds ice creams, different groups of people laughing at the same jokes, the same walk, that same laugh.

I tell you, it's like watching some massive brainwash program in action. We're all the same. And right after seeing that, I watch a movie telling us differences should be celebrated, loving everyone is a good thing. Welllllll. I suppose acceptance is good and what am I talking about? I have no idea anymore.

All I know, is watching emo stories makes me want to douse the country in anarchy, and let's face it: If anarchists ruled the world, I'd be the first to go. This, is conflict.

And now, I will start writing the second part of my blog post - like I give a shite if no one reads this .
listening: The Exploited - I believe in anarchy

<i>'I don't like being preached at.'</i>

Awww, there goes half my comments! :-)

<i>'You know how they say "show, don't tell"?'</i>

Yep! They use that for both Film work as well as novels/writing. Ohw ait, you were being retorical.

<i>'the goody-two-shoes aura is starting to make me dizzy.'</i>

Darn! And I polished my halo especially for that effect too! :-)

<i>'I am so BLOODY FUCKING TIRED of being told what is right, what is not, what is immoral'</i>

Stop being tired ... it's immoral! :-)

*ducks from bitchsmacking* :-)

<i>'I tell you, it's like watching some massive brainwash program in action.'</i>

Except, that when people are given freedom to be themselves, the first thing they do is conform!

<i>'like I give a shite if no one reads this'</i>

But ... but ... I read everything you write! Waaaah!
