Frustrating woman of the day / tshirts.

Written by lainie at 12:15 PM on November 29, 2006 in Takebackthetech.net, Daily Life.

"Sometimes, women put themselves in danger of violence. For example, women should know better than to walk alone in dark and deserted areas," said the Deputy Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

Speaking at the launch of "End Violence Against Women" campaign by Soroptimist International Region of Malaysia (SIROM) yesterday, she was unhappy with the rising number of cases where women and children were subjected to violence.

From this article: Do not blame men solely for violence against women (also known as, "You Could Hear the Collective Forehead Slaps From Over Here").

Blame the individual who performed the action. Which part of that is so hard to understand anyway?

Dear Datin, since the streets are unsafe, don't reckon you could demand of the government, privileged position that you're in, to get some (heck, all) of the police on the political beat to stop their work there (really, the police is supposed to serve the people, not act as a personal army to whomever), and have them patrol around on the crime beat?

====

Now, while wearing a comfy tshirt that has the stencil of a policeman beating up an unarmed man, and it says "Stop The Violence", I'm going to go buy lunch in the mamak where policemen hang out.

The first time I wore it there, I was stared at by the police and didn't know why. Now I think it's kinda funny, in the "oh crap, if my house gets broken into, they're not gonna be too happy about saving my ass" kinda way.

Oh well, last I heard (and met one), some of them are reading this blog anyway, shouldn't surprise them too much.

Speaking of blogs, if you want to read other blogs taking part in the "Take Back the Tech blogathon", this is a list of the bloggers, and it would seem Fireangel has joined up too!

=====

A friend once bought me a pair of novelty underpants that had a caption on the front reading ‘In case of fire break glass’. I didn’t understand what it meant until they did actually catch fire in the tumble dryer because they were acrylic and I had the setting on too high. The door melted shut and sure enough I had to break the glass to put the fire out. Replacement dryers are very expensive. As such I would like to meet a nice woman who won’t set fire to my underpants. Stupid, stupid man, 51. Box no. 2206

Thanks to the Bibliobibuli of many entertaining links, I've been reading personal ads at the London Review of Books website. You should too, I'm laughing so hard at some of the ads.
