Scattered brain / Sarang Murai + meeting Popagandhi / Central Market / J + M in Flam's / Housemates / Bangsar
Written by lainie at 03:05 AM on February 4, 2007 in Daily Life, Friends.
Gonna ramble a lot. Not that this should surprise anyone.
======
Today's been a day of zero work completed, meeting many foodies, and therefore having much good food. Met up with a friend, J, who wanted me to join her group of friends at a restaurant called Sarang Murai in Hulu Langat. This is what I missed the FFF launch for, by the way.
J told me one of the friends she brought was a blogger called Adri - I noticed she was taking a lot of photos of food, from various angles, with this big camera. She looked familiar, but I couldn't place her (and actually thought she might be an ex-schoolmate).
I think I only ooohed her big camera, before going for the food. Pei had a big camera too. I have a point-and-click I don't own
.
Only talked to Adri after lunch.
Adri: I occasionally read your blog.
Lainie: Oh. Cool. You blog too, right? Where?
Lainie: Ohhhh! Hell, yeah, I occasionally read yours too.
Lesbian blogger from Malaysia, lesbian blogger from Singapore, of course I know of her website. It was interesting for me to compare our experiences, because I don't really know of many Msian / SG lesbian bloggers, much less two as out as the both of us (feel free to suggest blogs).
I totally didn't sense her gayity. Man.....If I cannot even sense Popagandhi.com is gay, confirmlah my gaydar is broken.
She said hers gives her problems, but I still want to borrow it anyway. As it is, I'm going to go bring her to sweep her gaydar around KL, so I know who to go for
. She says her gaydar can not only sense gay people, but people about to be gay.......I jealous. I couldn't sense a fuchsia feather boa wrung around my neck.
We talked about how our family found out about our blogs, and the different ways they reacted. Her mother googled her name, my blog was printed out and distributed during social events my parents attended. Hah. I was glad that she was the youngest at the table, and not me. She said she wasn't about to complain.
Go read Popagandhi if you don't know it...Though honestly, what are the chances that if you're reading this, you already know her website - don't even deny, shameless hussies, the lot of you reading my blog.
And, if you like your food, Sarang Murai is worth a visit, and Aunty Rosnah is cool to talk with. Damn lotta attitude in one woman. She said I was performing monologues for the rest, because a bunch of very drunk people called me while the post-lunch chit-chat was going on
.
=====
After Sarang Murai, I wandered through Central Market with Adri, mostly because I wanted to see if the FFF launch was still going on. Instead, we caught bits of a rock concert, then headed to the NYKL photography exhibition.
Here's the bad part. After visiting the gallery, Adri wanted Air Mata Kucing from Petaling Street. And she led the way there. She even took a shortcut.....The Singaporean knows the area better than I do -_-".
She said Petaling Street was her 'hood.....frankly, I lived walking distance from it but a month ago, and I have no idea where Petaling Street is in relation to Central Market. But I'm a numbnut when it comes to directions.
She asked if there were any NGO stuff coming up - I invited her to a Katagender thing, because I thought it was happening next month (turns out it's in June / July, who knew the KG bunch capable of planning anything more than two weeks before? I'm quite amazed).
She's the only Singaporean I know of who's so willing to hop on a train for a day trip to Malaysia (or, as she calls it, Adventures Without Purpose).
=====
Next up, Adri and I hopped on a train to Bangsar, and then walked over to Flam's fine dining restaurant. Again, the Singaporean had to inform me that we had entered Bar Flam's, and the fine dining restaurant was a separate building, behind it. You know what sucks? I practically lived in Bar Flam's in the past. I should have known......
J and M met up with us again there, all changed into nice outfits and stuff - very different from Adri and I after all the walking
.
Had a bit of wine, brain instantly dimmed on me. I'm such an alcoholic lightweight. J had insisted on the oysters and wine, and M, whom she was supposed to room with, said she had better sleep in the guestroom, or in Adri's bed --- I'm still unsure who that was supposed to protect, J, or M.
Adri said I could bunk over at her place when I visit Singapore.
Adri: But I live in a block full of girls.
M: Whereas J has a dog.
Lainie: Hmmm. Dog, or block full of girls. Dog, or block full of girls.............
Adri: Actually, one and a half block full of girls.
Lainie: Oooh.
Adri left after dessert. Crazy woman, pretty much made a day trip here for food.
=====
Went shopping with J and M. Or rather, they shopped, and I walked around after
. I'm well-trained by mother and friends to trail after people as they search for the elusive, perfect accessory.
They're very good friends, pretty much comfortably snarky with each other. Reminds me strongly of how I interact with my friends, and I've already made a mental note to go out for dinner with Josie and Rach soon (if either of you are reading this, call me!).
I liked a lot of the stuff M was picking out, big colourful bags and all that.
We went for coffee afterwards, in some nearby mamak. J had pretty much been paying the way for me throughout the day (citing that I was a student, ie: broke). Finally got to pay....for three mamak drinks
.
Never mind, I graduate in a few months........ I told them about my curtainless room. And, I'm pretty sure all my window panes reflect what goes on in my bed. I don't really bother with privacy though, having minimal need for it, being single and all that. There's nothing interesting for voyeurs to see unless they fancy seeing me do scandalous things like ....type.....or read a book. Or sleep. Or doodle. You know. Rockstar lifestyle stuff like that.
M said she had heard about me from J, and that it was good to put a face to the name. Hah, same here. I'd been hearing about M for so long, it was nice to see what she looked like. Came home cause they decided to go for a foot reflexology thing, which.....Heh. I can't do that crap, it hurts the fuck outta me.
=====
My housemates were going out for a drink when I came home. They asked me to join them - I told them I couldn't, because I had work. Looked at Zedeck and said "I have to design KAKISENI's stuff". Zedeck said he "fired" me.
I'm not for you to fire, okay Zedeck? Don't even dream. It's cool anyhow, they came home in about an hour and sat around my room, talking about people.....
=====
Right. 3am. I'm off to bed. Adri had said she would blog about Sarang Murai before me (hon, I'm not on a train to Singapore, so gotcha there). Heh. Anyhow, always good to meet more people. Gah. I can't concentrate enough to blog, and I'm watching mozzies bite me.
I just killed one, then Jemufo came into my room, scratching her arm and complaining that she was getting bitten in her room too. Update next time. Sleep now. ...................Zedeck ran up and reset the modem just as I pressed "post", so if this post doesn't appear......Oh, I don't give a fuck.
